“Security is not a state, it’s a process.“
This motto is shared by many people who work in security technology – including David Bonsack, project manager at bürgi.com. His journey began during his apprenticeship, and today he plans and implements sophisticated security solutions for customers from a wide range of sectors.
In this interview, David talks about his career milestones, the fascination of a constantly changing industry and special challenges – such as security integration in a correctional facility. He explains what trends are driving the industry and why he feels he is in good hands at Bürgi.com.
What are your professional backgrounds in terms of security technology – and what is your role at bürgi.com?
My journey in security technology began during my apprenticeship, when I installed alarm systems for private customers. In 2009, I then had the opportunity to join bürgi.com, where I worked as a security systems technician. Over time, I was able to develop my skills and eventually become a project manager.
In my current role, I am responsible for the planning and implementation of security projects for our customers, working closely with our team to provide customized solutions.
What do you find exciting about this industry?
The security technology sector is extremely exciting because it is constantly evolving. It’s not just about ensuring security, but also about being at the cutting edge of technology. This industry offers the opportunity to develop innovative solutions that make people’s lives safer. I also find it inspiring how our work can help protect businesses and communities from various threats.
What was or is a very special assignment for you that has challenged you?
Oh yes, there was one particular challenge that sticks in my mind. Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to work on many challenging projects, but one that particularly sticks in my mind was the security integration at the prison in Muttenz. This project was extremely complex due to the diverse security requirements and the need to implement a state-of-the-art system in a sensitive environment. We not only had to guarantee physical security, but also ensure that the control and monitoring systems functioned flawlessly.
Working closely with different experts and constantly adapting to unexpected situations has been very challenging for me personally and professionally. It was an excellent opportunity to further develop my skills and find solutions that met the special requirements of a prison.
What do you think are the trends in the security industry?
The security industry is changing rapidly. One of the most notable trends is the increased integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into security solutions. This allows us to detect threats faster and respond proactively. Similarly, cyber security is becoming increasingly important as networked systems become more vulnerable to attack. Sustainability also plays a role, as companies are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly security solutions.
